10 of the Hottest Trends in Interior Design in Orange County in 2022
A fresh start to the new year, better energy flow, increased endorphins, more time spent at home, the deep need for more harmony and serenity—it’s a long list of reasons why Orange County homes are receiving revamps in 2022. From minor uplifts to major remodels, we’ve put together our predictions of the hottest trends in interior design in Orange County in 2022.
1. Sustainability Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
It’s no surprise that sustainability is one of the top interior design trends in Orange County, California this year. With more people taking ownership in the fight for a sustainable future, you are guaranteed to see an increase in recycled furniture (like vintage rugs), upcycled pieces (think unique artwork), locally made decor from reusable and/or eco-friendly sources, and rapidly renewable natural materials like cork and bamboo.
Another benefit of decorating with sustainability in mind is decreased maintenance costs, reduced utility expenses, and higher returns on your investment. Drought-resistant landscaping and energy-efficient lighting will continue to be in high demand for these exact reasons. Fun fact: the greatest ROI you can receive on your home is switching all your light bulbs to LED lights!
2. Bold Pattern Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
We talk about bold patterns a lot! Why? We love them. Choosing a bold pattern for your wallpaper, tile flooring, accent wall, shower wall, accent rug, or even your headboard or bedding, can change the entire look of your home. This year, we expect to see a lot of bold patterns in black and white. If you’re on a tighter budget, this should be the one area where you splurge!
3. Texture Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
The texture trends in Orange County are as vast as the types of textures around the world–from soft and nubby boucle and velvet to hard and sleek stone and metal. We’ll talk about a few texture trends we expect to see in 2022, but the biggest takeaway is this: adding texture makes a room more dynamic and interesting and is what gives your home that cozy, warm feeling.
The biggest texture trends we expect to see is reeded, fluted, or slatted wood. This ornamental millwork can be used in more modern applications to walls or cabinets to add interest and repetition in a design.
Using naturally woven textures for seating, lighting, small decor items, and tables is also a hot trend that will continue in 2022. And, these naturally woven textures incorporate a lot of other design trends we plan to see in 2022, like earth tones, nature, and sustainability.
Incorporating delicate black metal has been, and continues to be, very popular for window frames, stair railing, and even furniture details. It can add a contrast to an otherwise bright white space and gives a modern minimalistic style.
Plastered wall finishes are an excellent way to add texture throughout your entire home. Bonus: plaster wall finishes generally last longer than paint jobs or wallpaper because once it dries, it hardens to a stone-like finish.
4. Neutral Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
Classic and in-demand: white and warmer neutrals (with a pop of color). This design style never goes out of style—and, it's perfect for the beach towns in Orange County. Start with a white, clean space (white walls, countertops, sinks, furniture, bedding) and add in natural woods (doors, bed and other furniture frames, fixtures, etc.), and finish off with light neutral colors for decor (pillows, lighting, artwork, curtains, rugs). But, don’t forget to add a pop of color with an accent pillow or art or even a funky chair to liven and cozy-up your home.
5. Nature and Earth Tone Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
Bringing the outdoors into your home using vibrant plant life and earth tones will continue to be a trend in 2022. Aside from looking beautiful, incorporating live plants and fresh flowers into your home can have a significant impact on your mood, improves memory retention and concentration, and reduces stress! If you don’t have a green thumb, consider decorating with floral patterns or photos of plant and animal life as an alternative way to incorporate nature. And, as we mentioned earlier, other natural elements can also be incorporated into your home, like real wood, stone, and naturally woven materials.
As for color, cool colors continue to trend out and the use of warm earth tone colors (deep greens, warm browns, terracotta oranges, blues) continues to trend up. These colors do exactly what it sounds like—they warm up your home while also adding a level of sophistication. To tie everything together, use brass, gold or black fixtures and frames.
6. Alternative Countertop Material Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
White marble countertops are always a classic winner, but other more durable countertop materials continue to be sought after particularly in high use places like the kitchen. Other natural stones like quartzite or dolomite are more durable than marble but still give a gorgeous organic look while porcelain countertops copy the look of marble almost identically. Other alternative materials that are trending include concrete, terrazzo, or the most popular quartz. Quartz is extremely dense and impermeable, so it makes a great kitchen counter surface. We like the look of simple solid or textural quartz that isn’t trying too hard to look like another stone, but instead honors its own man-made quality.
7. Minimalist Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
Minimalist designs can mean a few different things: Marie Kondo-ing your space, using only a few colors in your design pallet, or incorporating thoughtful negative space to make a home feel clean and uncluttered, etc. We also love that this is a great way to incorporate some of those sustainable materials and a minimal amount of unique hand-made functional decor instead of filling your space with many manufactured items. A few ideas: locally made kitchen table, hand-made ceramic dishes, wall art, or organic linen pillowcases. The possibilities are endless.
8. Multifunctional Space Trends in Interior Design in Orange County
Going on year three of a pandemic means we continue to work-from-home and school-from-home. We believe the need for multifunctional spaces is here to stay. If you haven’t already, it’s time to create a space for yourself, or for the kiddos, that’s both functional and enjoyable. To do this, here are a few tips to consider:
Make sure the decor you purchase meets your needs
Consider multifunctional furniture
Opt for an efficient layout
Skip oversized furniture
Make smart choices for storage
If the room is crowded, go for clean colors so it doesn’t feel cluttered
Consider hiring a professional designer to help

Understanding the Interior Design Process: a Step-by-Step Guide for Working with an Interior Designer
Curious about the interior design process? Check out our step-by-step guide for working with an interior designer. You’ll gain a better understanding of the full remodel process, from discovery call to final walkthrough and everything in between.
Designed by Vieve Interiors
I know what I like, but I just don’t know how to make it all come together. We hear this so often from our clients. This means it’s time—time to tap out (so to speak) and tap in a qualified interior designer! Working with an interior designer eliminates the stress and overwhelm, eases the process of remodeling and building homes, improves the functionality of your living space, and transforms your personal style and goals into a beautiful, cohesive home.
If this is your first time working with an interior designer, you may be curious about the process. You’re in the right place. We’ve created a step-by-step guide for working with an interior designer to help you develop a good understanding of the interior design process before you begin.
Step One: The Discovery Phone Call
The first step in the interior design process is to get to know your potential interior designer with a discovery call. This initial meet-and-greet is the perfect opportunity for both you and the interior designer to determine if working together is a good fit.
Your choice of interior designer shouldn’t be based solely on design style. While good style is obviously a determining factor, it is important to remember that if design principles like balance, rhythm and repetition, contrast, and proportion, are well thought out, your space will come together in a cohesive way no matter what design style you choose. So, find someone who:
Will work within your timeline and budget.
Is a good listener and will not steamroll your ideas—a good designer should be able to easily add your personality into their design plans.
Can decipher your pain points and goals.
Not only has an eye for aesthetics, but also has a technical background and plenty of experience.
Once you are confident you have found a perfect match for your redesign, it’s time to schedule your in-person, on-site consultation.
Step Two: In-Person, On-Site Consultation
The in-person, on-site consultation kicks off the start of your project (yay!). Each design firm does things a little differently, but our initial consultation typically lasts two hours and is a paid service. During your consultation, you will start to have conversations about functionality and style. This is your time to tell your designer all your hopes and dreams for your space! Your designer may make some suggestions or have some design ideas to consider, but this meeting is largely about gathering as much information as possible to understand your needs. This is also when your designer will go over the entire design process and your contract.
Step Three: The Conceptual Design Phase
Time to get excited—during the conceptual design phase, your designer is hard at work putting together their big vision for your home! The designer will complete a site survey to take measurements and photos of your space. You are also likely to receive access to a shared Pinterest board during this phase so that you and your designer can start to get inspired.
This phase is also the time when initial floor planning begins—to develop good flow patterns and add desired features into your home. If you opted to work with a designer who also has a technical background, you will likely see preliminary AutoCAD drawings of initial floor plans for full remodels and some options for furniture space plans.
At the end of this phase, your designer will meet with you to review the initial plans, conceptual design ideas, and an estimated budget to ensure they are on track with the design intent.
Step Four: The Design Development Phase
After the initial plans are approved, the design development phase begins. This phase is kicked off with a “trade day” in which your interior designer will review the preliminary design ideas with the contractor and tradesmen to get initial bids for construction.
Next, your interior design team will develop all drawings and iron out all the specifics (every little detail) while simultaneously sourcing all materials, fixtures and furnishings. They will carefully select everything for your newly renovated home, including:
Tile
Lighting
Finishes
Countertops
Cabinetry
Paint colors
Flooring
Plumbing
Appliances
Furniture
Ready-made or custom pieces
You get the idea! Once the refined plans for your design are complete and selections are made, your designer will request pricing from vendors and update the budget as well as the timeline.
At the end of this phase, you will meet with your interior designer to review a finalized design presentation, tear sheets, and the physical material samples. This design plan will be the most finished product up to this point. If something is not approved, the designer will reselect items, refine any construction drawings, and present you with the updated design. Once everything is approved, we move onto the final design phase.
Step Five: The Final Design Phase
In the final design phase, a few big things are happening. First, your interior designer will create a specifications notebook for the general contractor (to be left at the job site) that includes all floor plans, along with specification sheets of finishes, fixtures and furnishings. All final drawings will be given to you, the general contractor, and any trades necessary. If the general contractor has not done so yet, this is the time they will obtain any required permits.
Additionally, your designer should begin collecting accessories to be able to complete your design once construction is finished. At Viève Interiors, we compile a list of accessories and final touches needed and then collect a retainer before purchasing what we need to style out your home. Once that is done, “purchasing and procurement” of all merchandise will begin. The interior design team will coordinate all deliveries and, when necessary, work with a receiver who will make sure everything is in great condition.
The final design phase will also include a lot of project management tasks. For example, the interior designer should host a walk-through meeting with the contractor to kick off construction, and then make periodic visits to the site to ensure design execution is going as planned. Inevitably, issues may arise, in which case your designer should always be looking for solutions and adjusting plans and drawings when needed.
During this final design phase, the designer will also verify locations of light fixtures, tiles and other flooring, refine details on site, and coordinate additional vendors (like an upholster, wallpaper installer, or window treatment workroom).
Step Six: Installation and Styling
Finally, the stage when we get to see it all come together! Once construction is complete, your interior design team will schedule a time to take photographs and will install all furniture and décor. At this point, you get to decide what accessories you want to keep and what you want to return. It’s so fun!
Step Seven: Project Wrap
After a long journey, the day has finally come for the last walk through—yay! To make sure that you are totally and completely in love with your new home design, your interior designer will walk through your space with you and note any deficiencies that need to be resolved, while coordinating solutions. This is also the time where your designer will take pictures of your beautiful home and give you the final invoice. If you are happy with your new remodel, it’s the perfect opportunity to give your interior designer a few referrals or a raving review!

Interior Design: 7 Best Tips to Decorate Your Bedroom
Learn our 7 best interior design tips to decorate your bedroom. With these 7 decorating tips, your bedroom can become a sanctuary for you to rest and rejuvenate. It can help you wake up every morning feeling refreshed and ready for whatever comes your way!
Welcome to the next blog in our series, Interior Design: Best Tips to Decorate Your Home! We’re sharing all our best interior design tips to decorate your bedroom—one of our favorite rooms of the house. This space, if well designed, can become a sanctuary for you to rest and rejuvenate. It can help you wake up every morning feeling refreshed and ready for whatever comes your way, just by taking a few simple steps to freshen up your bedroom.
1. Stay True to Your Interior Design Style
When you're in your bedroom, you should feel happy and peaceful. Your bedroom should be a place where you can relax and rest. To evoke all those wonderful feelings, your space should feel like you. That is why our #1 design tip to decorate your bedroom is to stay true to you by staying true to your design style.
If design principles like balance, rhythm and repetition, contrast, and proportion, are well thought out, your bedroom will come together in a cohesive way no matter what design style you choose. Unsure what style is your favorite? Check out Interior Design Styles: A Guide to the 14 Most Popular Types. If none of those feel like you, that’s OK too. Show your designer a few decor items or design elements you like, and they can help you figure it out!
2. Configure a Balanced Room with Rhythm & Repetition
Rhythm and repetition is the idea of creating movement and harmony throughout your space with recurring patterns, colors, and different elements. Repetition can be achieved by subtly repeating lines or textures. Or, you can create more bold repetition through symmetry. Mirroring one side of the bedroom to the other side with matching end tables and accessories, along with bed decor and headboards, provides a calming aesthetic to a modern bedroom.
3. Create a Relaxing Space with a Layered Bed
There is nothing cozier or more relaxing in your bedroom than a layered bed! And the best part is, there is no right or wrong way to layer your bed. All you need is to have a few basic elements in place to create your layered masterpiece—your favorite cozy sheets, a comforter or duvet, decorative pillows, and a throw blanket (or two). Layering your bed is also a perfect opportunity for you to get creative by testing out different patterns, textures, and colors. For exact tips on how to layer your bed like a stylist, visit west elm or try Pine & Prospect Home’s 7 Steps to a Cozy, Beautifully Layered Bed.
4. Choose Romantic Colors & Accent Pieces
A romantically designed space can look different for everyone. Ultimately, that romantic look can be very invigorating, and comes from choosing the right lighting, colors and accent pieces for your style and personality. One great way to do this is by styling your bedroom in a soft, neutral color pallet—cream, beige and soft pinks or pale peach—to give the space even more of a romantic, rosy feel. When it comes to accent pieces, try incorporating black elements, natural wood, fresh flowers, and sparkling lighting.
5. Use Properly Scaled & Proportioned Artwork
One of the most understated design concepts is properly scaled and proportioned artwork. Scale and proportion, two very common interior design terms, are what make a home or room warm and inviting. Oftentimes artwork is either too small or not the right orientation for wall space. Our pro tip is this: measure your wall space available, or better yet, tape out a possible art size on the wall to see how it feels.
In the bedroom we designed above, the bird prints work well in a fairly large size because the images themselves already have a lot of negative space. While these images generously fill the wall space, they still feel simple and thus create that peaceful feeling we were going for in this serene bedroom.
6. Paint an Accent Wall for Dramatic Effect
While this tip can be used in any room of your house, coupling a dark accent wall with a lot of white space can really set a dramatically sexy mood for your bedroom. Painting an accent wall in your bedroom can help you achieve the dreamy, dark effect without zapping all the light from your space. The accent wall can become the main focal point of your bedroom. It can be used to reinvent an otherwise stale space, and create a modern, sleek look.
7. Tie Everything Together with a Rug & Window Treatments
Our last tip to decorate your bedroom is to tie everything together using an area rug or an accent rug, and window treatments.
A good area rug can serve as the focal point of your space or simply create a soft and inviting foundation that anchors your bedroom furniture. Area and accent rugs can provide a pop of color, tie colors throughout the room together, help balance your bedroom, or even add a little texture.
Go a step further and finish off your space with window treatments. We love this analogy—Window treatments are like the jackets of interior design: They're often the last thing you add, but they can dress a room up or down. How true is that? Window treatments can make a room seem bigger, cozier, fancier, more modern or romantic…the list goes on. They can also add privacy or block out light, usually a much-needed functionality in a bedroom. Bottom line: don’t skip the window treatments (drapes, curtains, shades and blinds)—they might be the finishing touches you need to really transform your space and tie all your other design elements together!

Turn Your Orange County Living Room into a Winter Wonderland
Living in Orange County means a white winter is next to impossible. Unless...you bring your winter wonderland inside your home...With the help of our interior design tips, you can easily turn your Orange County living room into an elegant winter wonderland this season!
[Insert instrumentals] “Sleigh bells ring, are you listenin'? In the lane, snow is glistenin', a beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight, walking in a winter wonderland...” (If singing in your head is not enough, here’s a link to Michael Bublé’s version of “Winter Wonderland” 😉)
A lot of people dream of having a white winter—but living in Orange County, California, means a white winter is next to impossible. Unless...you bring your winter wonderland inside your home...
With the help of our interior design tips, you can easily turn your Orange County living room into an elegant winter wonderland this season!
Here are our 5 tips to turn your Orange County living room into a winter wonderland:
1. Change your Colors for the Season
If you want to achieve that classy look of a winter wonderland, add as much white as possible into your living room. To accent, add splashes of cream, gold and silver. These colors help to and depth and dimension and elevate the interior design of your living room for the entire winter season. You can also opt for clear, shiny and/or sparkly accent pieces.
Start by giving your sofa a makeover. Throw on a slipcover, change your throw pillows, and add a new cozy blanket. In fact, we found beautiful white throws and pillows at west elm. We also recommend warming up cold toes by adding a furry white rug this winter season. For more tips on how to make your home feel cozy this season, check out or blog.
2. Make Use of Your Fireplace & Furniture
There is nothing like a roaring fire to help bring the outdoors inside, so be sure to make good use of your fireplace this winter. Display extra wood by the fireplace for both functionality and style. Decorate your mantle with frosted greenery or snow-dusted pine cones, or a collection of white candles on light wood, silver or gold candlestick holders and fake white trees.
Bottom line: have fun! Decorate your coffee table, side tables, and entertainment units with pieces that you really love. This time of year, you shouldn’t have a hard time finding decorations that fit within the winter wonderland color palette. So, shop around. We love to incorporate winter animal figurines in gold or silver like these cute but classy 9" Silver Reindeer from Crate & Barrel to help bring the feeling of a winter wonderland inside.
3. Create a Snowy Space
To make your home feel like a true winter wonderland, create a snowy space. Use cotton batting or other artificial snow products for your tables, mantels and other areas in your living room. For a shimmering effect, spray your fake snow with a glitter spray. You can also frost your windows with spray snow for an extra wintery touch.
For this tip, we’ve included a couple specific ideas. Lay down a sheet of fake snow and create a snowy village by placing white, ceramic homes down. You can put your village in the entryway of your home or across the mantel. Handmade Ceramic Christmas Village Houses from Pottery Barn could be exactly what your winter wonderland is missing.
We got our next suggestion from eHow: “An option for centerpieces or vases is to use floral gel crystals. Look for them in the floral section of a craft store. Water mixed with the crystals turns it into a snowlike texture. Place it in a shallow bowl and arrange candles or glass Christmas ornaments in it for a festive centerpiece.”
4. Dress Up a Fake Tree
While we love the smell of a real douglas fir, our next tip for turning your Orange County living room into a winter wonderland is this: consider purchasing a fake tree that is white or snow-dusted.
Then, dress your tree to the nines! Remember, to keep with the winter wonderland theme, choose white, cream, gold and/or silver ornaments. You can also decorate with clear glass, shiny or sparkly ornaments to make your tree the real star of the show! Ornaments can also be snow-themed such as snowmen, snowballs, or snowflakes. We recommend these beautiful Hammond Ornaments from Anthropology. For your tree topper, consider either a silver or gold star.
Lastly, swap out your traditional-colored tree skirt for a solid cream or white, or consider one with gold or silver accents.
5. Add Twinkly Lights Everywhere
For the final touch, add twinkly lights anywhere and everywhere in your living room during the winter season. This will bring your winter wonderland to life and light up decorations so they really stand out. Sprinkle some glittering lights on the mantle in between your decorations, throughout your holiday tree, and inside the snow you have placed throughout your home. The Electric LED String Lights from West Elm will work perfectly to enhance your winter wonderland, especially if used throughout the snow.
If you’re looking to stage your home for the winter season, or a special occasion, we’d love to help! To get started, set up a consultation with Viève Interiors today.

Interior Design: Best Tips to Update Your Bathroom
Ready to spruce up your bathroom? Get Orange County Interior Designer, Viève Interiors’, best interior design tips to decorate your bathroom, whether you want to change the look all together, or just spruce it up a bit.
A quick Google search for the best bathroom interior design tips will return ideas and suggestions to make your bathroom appear bigger (‘opt for larger mirrors’ and ‘let in a lot of natural light’ being a couple of our favorites), to tips for designing a bathroom that is both stylish and functional (we find that the best spaces are both beautiful and practical, would you agree?), and, of course, everything in between.
We’ve put together our best interior design tips to decorate your bathroom, whether you want to spruce it up a bit, or change the look all together.
SWAP OUT YOUR PLUMBING FIXTURES & CABINET HARDWARE
Changing up your cabinet knobs, faucets, towel racks, and toilet paper holders will make a world of difference for the aesthetics of your bathroom as it’s one of the quickest ways to change the overall look of your bathroom.
We suggest taking photos of the space and each fixture before taking everything off. This way you can reference your photos to know if you need a single hole, widespread, or center-set faucet. To switch out your shower head or on/off valve you’ll need to note the brand and type (or better yet, bring the old one with you) to make sure your new faucet fits the rough plumbing in the wall. If you're replacing the tile and rough plumbing, you don’t need to worry about this and can select a whole new brand and type throughout. We also highly suggest bringing old cabinet hardware (one of each) with you when shopping so you know what size pulls you need. But feel free to select a completely different finish and style to really change things up! You can choose a brand new set in brass, gold, copper, bronze, nickel, chrome, or stainless steel.
Pro tip
Use a good mix of metal finishes in the bathroom. Just keep all plumbing fixtures the same while selecting a different finish for cabinet hardware or light fixtures. Here we used glossy chrome plumbing fixtures and hardware, coupled with a matte black metal shower frame and matte black metal fixtures on the towel rack.
Upgrading your tub, shower and sink can also change the entire look of your bathroom, if you’re up for a little more work. You may need to replace countertops or tile, but this update can give you a really relaxing, peaceful place for you to unwind when you need it most.
Choose a freestanding tub
with wall-mounted fixtures to create a luxurious spa feeling while providing a modern and classy look like we did in this bathroom remodel.
TILES, TILES AND MORE TILES
Our next interior design tip to renovate your bathroom is to upgrade your tile. Select coordinating tiles for the floor, your shower walls, shower pan, and an accent wall or detail. Pro Tip: one way to add simple, yet effective detail that will tie your design together is to use your accent tile or shower-pan tile on the back of your shower niche.
Cut costs
by using an Ikea vanity with a sink/countertop combo like we did here, we were able to splurge on this beautiful blue tile floor. Choosing a patterned tile floor is one way to add some fun pizzazz in a small space.
Make a bold statement
by tiling one of your bathroom walls. Here we chose a neutral-colored, matte tile to go with glossy fixtures to add interest and draw you into this spa-feeling dream space.
Create a unique pattern
using untraditional tiles or mix up the direction of a simple subway tile like we did in this shower. Instead of laying tile in straight rows, mixing up the orientation will give you a fresh take.
GO MINIMALIST
If you’re eager to change the look of your bathroom but not quite ready to commit to a full upgrade, go for a white, clean, minimalist style. Clean white lines and a few organic touches to your bathroom can change the entire look. First step: declutter your space. Decluttering is especially helpful if you have a small bathroom—minimal decor can make any space look larger, sleeker, and cleaner.
Next: Create a place for everything.
Hide any toiletries and items that you want unseen in cabinets and decorative baskets, or on shelves. In this modern bathroom we designed, custom cabinets create a storage space for everything you need. You can also shop for baskets at places like Target and HomeGoods to corral your products and keep things feeling tidy.
ADD A POP OF COLOR
The ways in which you can add a pop of color to your bathroom are endless. You can easily, and cost effectively, add some color to your bathroom by changing out your towels and bath mat (try draping a modern, colorful bath mat over a white standalone tub), or incorporating a few succulents or houseplants.
If you love a white or neutral bathroom
try adding a little color with sheer drapes like this design by Kate Walker. We appreciate what a difference the drapes make while still feeling subtle and cohesive with the warmth of the wood tone.
To change the look of your bathroom décor,
consider a bold ceiling paint, creating an accent wall, or changing the color of your current vanity. In fact, a simple coat in a fresh shade can make the bathroom feel new. We selected this cabinetry in a soft blue-grey to accentuate the cool relaxing vibe.
Play with color
by painting your bathroom door like this Oakland bath by Katie Martinez. With plenty of white to go around, the door adds welcome contrast.
Another way to add a pop of color
to your bathroom is to opt for a stained glass window. While this is not usually our go-to interior design style, we love the way it ties this bathroom all together.
DETAILS, PATTERS & TEXTURES
Sometimes a fresh bathroom design can come from paying close attention to the small details. For example, incorporating a variety of textures into your bathroom can be all you need to see a drastic change.
We used fluted white cabinetry
and a distinctly-shaped mirror to create that ‘wow factor’ in this clean space.
Add texture to an all-white bathroom
Here we tied together various details
when we designed a powder room with a simple black and white color palate. We used intricate detail, patterns and different textures like the arched backsplash with unique curves, wallpaper for an accent wall, and gold wall-mounted fixtures and lighting.
